Course on Colin

Today, i need to attend a course in Colin Street in city. actually it has been quite sometimes since i last travel with train. Well, Melbourne train, as usual, overcrowded with people in the morning, and cost me $10.10 for a day trip ticket. By the way, Melbourne writer's festival? never heard before....

the cross street of Queen and Colin.

looking out from the building where the course was held.
inside the classroom...
and lunch time, the lunch voucher

and guess what? i accidentally spotted two spiderman cleaning the windows by hanging just onto a rope from the top of building, which is a bit unusual to me as i thought normally in melbourne they will use a lift instead....
By the way, i overlook at the bill today, the one day course cost my company $995 +GST per person, what a good money huh?

have a nice day everyone

Document Centre

Last weekend my company had upgraded the document centre. the document centre is the place where we store all our files, it is also the server for the communication, email, power, security access for computers bla bla. and the memo this morning said the document centre now can accomodate 20 TB of storage. well, one TB is 1000GB, so 20 TB for a big company like this, not very impressive huh? judging that i myself got three disk drive at home which gives me total of 1.5 TB already....

anyway, still a cool systerm...

Bye Bye Safeway

Well, one of the things which catch my attention is that the Victorian favourite supermarket brand is finally undergo the rebranding process, from Safeway, to Woolworths!

Well, Woolworths is not an alien name to me, as thats the one i had been going since i just arrive australia in adelaide. anyway, to me, i would prefer the name woolworths than safeway, no reason, just preference. and that reminds me of a friend, who cant pronounce woolworths properly, and all the time he called it "wolfwolf"...

and for the sake of rebranding, they come out with this new logo. cool? not cool? doesnt matter, so long the prices of things in there doesnt increase......

Kids sport in Olympic

This is what we call the trampoline, something which is very common in country like Australia, where a lot of family probably got this in their backyard for kids. Well, what I don’t understand is, Trampoline is actually an Olympic event since Sydney Olympic 2000! Why would they put something belong to kid in a mega sports meet like Olympic? Noone knows…
And during this Beijing Olympic, a new event is created, call BMX. How cool is that, a BMX race in Olympic Game? So the participants can ride in their own bike they ride since young and score medals in their childhood company. Very heart-warming huh?

I guess sometimes it is just very hard to understand what the IOC is thinking and their criteria to include a new sports in Olympic. Remember we used to fight so hard to include the Badminton? and now even the proper sports like squash and sepak takraw is not included in the Olympic. if not, probably Malaysia will be happier because she got the world number one in squash Nicole David.

Anyway, enjoy the game, not much days left...

Billie

This is the heart warming news that I saw this morning. Well, if you have been to Adelaide before, or particularly Port Adelaide, you probably know that there is a dolphin cruise there on Port Adelaide River. It will only cost about 5 dollars per person, which is considered cheap in Australia.

Now the story is, the dolphin in Port Adelaide is found to be doing Tail walking on the river. You know, tail walking, something we see in seaworld or some circus, dolphin needed to be trained and be conned with fish after their performance. But these dolphins are wild!

According to an observer who has been observing these dolphins for the past 20 years, it was this dolphin by the name Billie who started the show first. About 10-15 years ago, this dolphin Billie was rescued from trapped and was put in the aquarium for three weeks as part of the rescue. Three weeks, noone teach her anything, but then she manage to pick the tricks from other dolphins in the aquarium. When she was released, she started her show, and throughout the years, now it is spotted that at least 6 dolphins who can perform this show on Port Adelaide River.
Now this discovery is something strange to the observer, as traditionally they believe dolphin will teach each other some skills, but only for survival sake. And this is the first case the recreational skills are being taught among dolphin. And that actually indicates how smart is this sea creature….
So? Love our Dolphins.....
and whales.....

Usain Bolt

Today, ahden's Photoblog wanna pay tribute to this guy, Usain Bolt from Jamaica. Just in case if you dunno who he is, he is the so called the Fastest Man on earth now as he won the Gold medal in Beijing for 100m Men Sprint. And to add spice on that, he even broke the world record and set it at 9.69 sec, eventhough he aparently slow himself down and start "celebrating" during the last 20m... Now this cause some media, specially those from the west to feel "beh song" again, saying he "celebrated" too quick and should have concentrated in further lowering the world record. But then, Hallo? This is a new world record still, what are you talking about? be appreciative, man...
Later, some photographer discovered one thing, his shoe lace was off during the 100m race! my goodness, can you imagine that? setting a world record in a loose shoe?
well, the latest news is that, he just win the Gold in 200m also, setting world record of 19.3sec. and he is the only one person in history who win both 100m and 200m with world record in a single olympic game, what kind of person is this?

one interesting fact about this guy is that, standing at 193cm, he is the tallest one who ever won these events. and someone actually counted his strides for 100m race and discovered he only use 41.5 strides, compared to 45 from the second place. So, three steps lesser, a lot faster...

lets hope he is not doping....

myself

Har..... looks like i seldom put my picture anywhere on internet for long long time. so all the pictures you are seeing now are actually taken so long ago... so, for the sake of those fan out there, here is my latest pic, taken only last week in stratford....

hmmm... no doubt i am not photogenic, so thats why i seldom take pic...
anyway, have a good night everyone..........

Stratford

Last week, i need to go down to Stratford to visit a job on site. For those who dunno where Stratford is, she is about 200 sth km away from Melbourne. The reason for the visit? because i left out an item accidentally during the tendering and thus, when the boys are out there for work, we discovered all these trees which are standing in our way. there are in total of between 50-60 trees that need to be chopped down, which is estimated to cost the company about $25000 which we didnt allow in our tendering price...
trees.... i hate trees now...
my manager told me,"dont worry too much about the money, we will make it back somewhere else. if we put allowance in our tender price we might not get this job in the first place..." Well, honestly, thats very nice and comforting of him.

on the way i stop by Morwell to have my lunch at a Red Rooster. its just funny enough to discovered that RR actually put chinese signs on their toilet, even though u hardly can see a chinese in that small town. Probably of Olympic games factor i guess.
and outside the restaurant the big poster says...
obviously, no matter how you "beh song" china's attitude and way of handling things, china's market still too big to be ignored...

USB

Here it is, my latest toy from ebay, the 16 GB USB Flash Drive, which cost me about $30, and free postage, not a bad deal huh?
just few years ago when i was still in uni i bought my first USB with 256mb. i remember i spent $120 on that and hey, at that time, to get one mb under 50cents is considered damn cheap already, and i was the person in my uni class that got the largest USB stick. Anyway, time flew, and the technologies picking up fast. 16GB for $30 now, whats next?

Tale of 2 little girls

Well, this two little girl make the headlines today for many news. In case you dont read news and you may be asking, WHY? Well, during the Beijing Olympic Opening Ceremony, first it was uncovered that part of the live telecast of fireworks outside the stadium are actually fake! its computer graphic design! WOW, amazing isnt it? in an event that was watched by billions of people in the world, and yet the OC fake it out right in front of your eyes. anyway, thats only the on tray, now back to the main course. Now if you got good memory you probably can recognise the girl on the right, the girl who was in red and sing the solo during the opening. then it was uncovered again, that despite being the solo, its actually not her voice! Wow, i remember when i was watching the ceremony with bunch of friends, i said the song was fake, and a lot of people, specially Hansel, doesnt agree with me. and now its proven again i am right, as usual.... hahaha. back to the point, so the voice is actually from a 7 years old girl on the left. then, question, why they dont allow the original girl to go up on stage then. then, this music director of opening ceremony comes out and explain, because, "she is not cute enough!" WOW, how hurt is that if you were the girls? this kind of things may be common in asian countries coz it basically happens always. but then, not to those from the other part of the world, where human rights and equal opportunity is a big things... i pity these girls actually, they are only 7 and 9 years old respectively, but what kind of pressure the adults are bringing to them now?

By the way, i wish to condemn the OC of this Olympic, not cute enough? what kind of standard are they basing? or may be i got poor taste coz i find this girl on the left is cute too....

China, Good luck. You lose my vote further....

Happy birthday Donna

happy birthday Donna on 9th Aug

the door story

Well, let’s talk about the door today. This is the spinning door that’s located at the ground floor of my company’s building. I guess this type of door is pretty common in Melbourne, particularly city. But then, there is always a problem with everything. This door, will automatically be in a “standby” mode after some times when noone else is passing through it. So, being in a stand by mode, the spinning speed will slow down to very slow… there is a sensor attached on each side to sense if anybody’s coming close and the spinning speed will increase to normal again.
Now the fun part is, the sensor on the outside of the door apparently is not working very well. So when you are entering the building, the door is still spinning like a tortoise crawling in a circle and in the end it took you about 4-5 second just to cross the door. The funnier part is, just as soon as you step out of the door, you trigger the sensor inside and the door start spinning normally then. So, when you step off, you just have to move quickly enough to avoid being hit by this master piece… so the question is, why can't they just put a normal door there? its quicker, safer and more environmental friendly as they use less energy? no idea...

city again

today i wanna share with you the flinders station in the early morning as i cruise through the traffic to my office. well, the traffic is not that bad that early tho. you can see the melbourne tallest tower, the Eureka tower...

you its the last month of winter, and generally in winter the sky tends to set a bit quicker. so by the time i walk out the office today, its getting a bit dark already. this photo shows the overhead rail lines on the super busy flinders street. talking about train, havent taken train for quite sometimes...
and the famous Federation square and the SBS building which got some funny LED panels with some sort of wordings running all over the building. pretty cool huh?
and obviously, a very architecally designed building, dont you think the Beijing Bird nest copy the idea here?
and last, the favourite of a lot of people, the Crown Casino, the biggest one in Victoria. Come in, if you wanna to get rich, Come in also, if you wanna to die quicker....
i guess i have put enough photo on flinders, should try something else next time. the problem is, havent really got time to do it....sigh..... alright, take k everyone.......
